Benign

The word benign means kind and gentle. It is an adjective. It is used in the book To Kill a Mockingbird in the following sentence: "...she was only another lady in the neighborhood, but a relatively benign presence (p. 46)." http://www.lausd.k12.ca.us/Belmont_HS/tkm/
